Tuesday, June 4  

BOOK DONATION DROP-OFF BEGINS: The first day for book donation drop-offs at the Old Firehall, 165 John St, Eganville, for the Giant Book Sale on June 22 at that location. Drop-offs are welcome Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until the sale. We really appreciate gently used books, audiobooks and jigsaw puzzles but cannot accept encyclopedias, textbooks, magazines or mouldy, soiled books. All proceeds support the work of the Eganville and Area Horticultural Society. 

ART EXHIBITION: The Chapeau Regionale Gallerie located at 106 St. Jacques St., Chapeau, Que. is featuring an art exhibition of the late Lorna Roel from June 4 to 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  

Wednesday, June 5    

CULTURAL ORIENTATIONS: Introduction to Intercultural Competency Workshop – June 5, 9 – 11 a.m. Join Local Immigration Partnership – Lanark & Renfrew for this free virtual introductory workshop featuring topics like Identity and Culture, Value-based Behaviours, Assigning Meaning and Unconscious Bias. A ‘come-as-you-are’ opportunity to learn more about yourself and the people in your life. This session is designed to be interactive and to encourage a desire for continuous learning! COBDEN SENIORS POT-LUCK LUNCHEON: Cobden Seniors Pot-Luck Luncheon, meeting and card games the first Wednesday of each month at noon with the exception of July and August. Held in the basement of the Whitewater Municipal Building, Main Street, Cobden. Access through the parking lot behind the building. Ages 50+.    

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS: AA at the Killaloe and District Senior Citizens Friendship Club at 18 Lake St. in Killaloe. 7 – 9 p.m. every Wednesday.    

Thursday, June 6   

ART EXHIBITION: The Chapeau Regionale Gallerie located at 106 St. Jacques St., Chapeau, Que. is featuring an art exhibition of the late Lorna Roel from June 6 to 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.   

FLOOR SHUFFLEBOARD: The Cobden Seniors Club has floor shuffleboard every Thursday at 1:15 p.m. at the Cobden Canadian Legion upstairs. It is open to the public, ages 55 and up. Fee – $20 for the year. Come over and have some fun and good exercise. We are also planning to start a carpet bowling league soon, depending on how many people are interested in joining. Friday, June 7 

KILLALOE SENIORS WALKING CLUB: On Fridays the Killaloe Seniors Friendship Club Walking Club meets in front of the club at 12 Lake Street in Killaloe at 8:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome. After the walk join us for coffee and chat in the club from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Get a breakfast sandwich and beverage for $5.

COMMUNITY YARD SALE: The Beachburg Annual Community Yard Sale and BBQ takes place on June 8 beginning at 8 a.m. Barbecue at St. Andrew’s church parking lot. Vendor tables available to rent. Contact Sandy 613-582-7115.    

GIANT GARAGE SALE:  Giant garage sale at Zion Lutheran Church, 454 Miller St, Pembroke.  Saturday June 8 from 8 a.m. to 1 pm. Household items, plants, bedding, sports equipment, children’s toys and so much more. Also home baking.

YARD AND BAKE SALE / BBQ: Chapeau Regionale Gallerie and The Convent are having their Spring Community Yard and Bake Sale on Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and barbecue prepared by Chef Sam and served at The Convent, 100 Notre Dame St., Chapeau, Que. From noon to 2 p.m.

EUCHRE: Petawawa Legion Branch 517 hosts euchre every Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. All are welcome, no membership required! The cost to play is $5. We play a round-robin style and you do not have to bring a partner to play with. You can attend alone or bring others with you. We have volunteers here to fill the tables if necessary so that all who attend can play! There will be prizes, sandwiches and coffee for purchase, and a 50/50 draw.    

SPRING CONCERT: Presented by the Pine Art Collective Women’s Choir and guests. Sunday, June 9 at 2 p.m. 27 Brumm Rd. Pembroke. Refreshments to follow. Free entry, donations to support the Pine Arts Scholarship Fund would be greatly appreciated.

CIVITAN BINGO: The Greater Petawawa Civitan Club hosts a weekly bingo in the Petawawa Civic Centre Hall. Bingo details can be found on the Civitan Club’s website. Doors open 5:30 p.m., flash games at 6:30 p.m., regular games at 7 p.m. Please contact the club directly for all inquiries. 

SPRING CONCERT: The Lakeside Community Chorus, a local group of singers are back for a Spring Concert at the Cobden Presbyterian Church (Highway 17 beside the park). Join us for a gospel concert on Sunday, June 9th at 7 p.m.  A free will offering and all proceeds will go to the Cobden District Public School Playground project. They are in need of everyone’s support. Refreshments to follow. Everyone welcome!

Monday, June 10 

MINDFULLNESS AND GET TOGETHER: Mondays in the Killaloe Seniors Friendship Club features Mindfullness with Irving from 11:30 a.m.  to 1 p.m. Following that event is Drop-in Mondays Encouraging Friends Get Together from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. We crochet, knit, play cards, do puzzles, and more. Coffee, tea, snacks available by donation.  12 Lake St. In Killaloe.

In this interactive Zoom workshop, we will examine some of the most common Cultural Orientations, including Time, Power Distance, Hierarchy and Communication. SILVER THREADS COFFEE CONNECTS: On Wednesday, June 12 at 1 pm. at 1163 Victoria Street in Petawawa. Information session on the Service Canada Dental Plan for Seniors. Coffee, tea available. Come out to these information sessions and bring a friend or family member.   

RANKIN MUSIC JAM: There will be a Music Jam every second Wednesday of the month from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Rankin Culture and Recreation Centre. $3 admission. Bring your instruments, your voices, and your dancing shoes. There will be share-of-the-wealth tickets sold, spot dances, and a beautiful door prize.

ALGONQUIN COLLEGE SPEAKER SERIES: Thursday, June 13th at 7 p.m. Historian David Saint-Pierre – The Empress of Ireland Ship Disaster. It was the Canada’s worst shipping disaster as more than 1,000 people died when the Empress of Ireland sunk after colliding with another ship in heavy fog on May 29, 1914, but few Canadians know about the horrific accident. It rivaled the sinking of the Titanic two years earlier, but didn’t receive nearly as much media coverage, and has subsequently been lost to the pages of history. David will be on campus but his presentation can also be accessed through online streaming. PETAWAWA PRIDE EVENT: Wear your rainbow best to Petawawa’s 2nd Annual Pride celebration starting at 5 p.m. at the Kin Hut with crafts, music, colouring, balloon animals, concessions, and a selfie booth! Take a moment to celebrate with live music and make your mark on our community art project.

JOINT YEAR SALE: The Pembroke Area Field Naturalists are holding a joint yard sale sponsored by the Children’s Garden Day Nursery. This fundraising event is planned for June 15 at 375 Doran Street, Pembroke. Donated items can be brought to the Nursery the week of June 10 up to Saturday, June 15. Items can include books, perennial plants, tools, household items and children’s clothes.  

ART EXHIBITION / MEET THE ARTIST: Celebrating National Indigenous Month in recognition of the Indigenous Peoples from June 4 to June 29, the Chapeau ReigonaleGallerie is displaying an Indigenous Art Exhibition and meet the artist Margaret Shannon on Saturday, June 15 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

EGANVILLE AND AREA HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: Guest speaker Frances O’Malley presents a workshop-style presentation of “Homemade Self-watering Planting Containers” hosted by the Eganville and Area Horticultural Society. Recycle plastics and keep them out of landfill – you can have fun and learn the science behind this method. At the Eganville Legion, social time 7 – 7:30 p.m., meeting 7:30. Free to members; visitors invited to make a donation. Membership only $10 and allows attendance at garden tours this summer.

LOG CABIN QUILTERS: Pembroke Log Cabin Quilters meet once a month at 1163 Victoria Street, Petawawa in the basement. Every third Tuesday. Come on in and join us. Whether you are an experienced quilter or a beginner, all are welcome. 6-7 p.m. is social time and meeting begins at 7 p.m.
