Women’s Flag Football Plays Warner in the NAIA Flag Football Semifinal Contest – Ottawa University

The Braves went 2-0 in pool play on Wednesday with victories over Campbellsville, 47-0, and St. Thomas, 20-6. Ottawa avenged an earlier season loss to STU with the win. The Bobcats had defeated the Braves 13-7 on March 15 in Waleska, Ga.

If Ottawa defeats Warner University in the NAIA Flag Football Finals, OU will play the winner of the Keiser University/Thomas University football game in the championship at 3pm (est) on May 10.

In the win over Campbellsville, Ottawa finished the game with 308 yards of offense, 265 yards passing and 43 yards rushing. OU’s defense held CU to 69 yards passing and -17 yard rushing for a total of 52 yards of offense. Madysen Carrera was 23-for-26 through the air for 265 yards and seven touchdowns. Jazlyn Camacho had six receptions for 41 yards and two touchdowns. Marley Spielberg and Alyssa Linkous had four receptions apiece. Spielberg had 53 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions. Linkous had 52 receiving yards.  Jukanie Washington had six flag pulls and one pass breakup. Cynthia Homs and Dejonice Parris had four flag pulls apiece. Parris had two sacks, three flag pulls for loss and one pass break up.

In the win over St. Thomas, Ottawa had 220 yards through the air and 10 yards rushing for 234 yards of offense. St. Thomas had 136 yards of offense, 122 yards through the air and 14 yards rushing. Madysen Carrera was 25-for-35 through the air for 220 yards and three touchdowns. Jazlyn Camacho and Alyssa Linkous had seven receptions apiece. Camacho finished the game with 81 receiving yards and one touchdown. Linkous had 57 receiving yards and a touchdown. Cynthia Homs and Jukanie Washington had six flag pulls apiece. Homs had a pass breakup Teliyah McInnish led OU with three pass break ups. Susann Kaufmann finished with one sack.

The Braves are averaging 36.6 points per game and holding opponents to 8.6 points per game. Ottawa is averaging 300.9 yards of offense per game, 4,942 yards through the air and 475 yards on the ground. Opponents are averaging 179.6 yards of offense per game, 169.2 yards through the air and 10.4 rushing yards per game.

Madysen Carrera leads the team in rushing with 316 yards. She is averaging 5.5 yards per rush, 17.6 rushing yards per game, and has scored four rushing touchdowns. Carrera is 405-527 through the air for 4,227 yards and 66 touchdowns. She is completing 77 percent of her passes and is averaging 234.8 passing yards per game.

Alyssa Linkous leads the team in receptions with 80. She has 847 receiving yards, is averaging 56.5 receiving yards per game has 14 receiving touchdowns. Jazlyn Camacho has 77 receptions for 834 yards and 17 touchdowns. She is averaging 49.1 receiving yards per game.

Abby Brown leads the team in flag pulls with 79. She has seven interceptions and seven pass break ups. Jukanie Washington is second on the team in flag pulls with 68. She has one sack, three interceptions, and seven pass break ups. Susann Kaufmann has 52 flag pulls, 12 flag pulls for loss, nine sacks, and seven pass break ups.

Ottawa has a record of 1-0 against Warner University. The first and only time that the Braves and Royals have met was on March 15, 2022 was in Babson Park, Fla. Ottawa won the game, 45-21.

The Braves have a record of 3-2 against Keiser University. The two teams met earlier this season in Waleska, Ga. on March 16. Keiser won the game, 33-6. Prior to that loss, the Braves had won three straight against the Seahawks. Ottawa is 3-0 against KU in the NAIA Flag Football Finals. OU defeated the Seahawks 21-12 in their last post season match up on March 18, 2023.

Ottawa has a record of 3-3 against Thomas University. The two teams met earlier this season on March 16 in Waleska, Ga. The Night Hawks won the game, 24-12. Ottawa has a record of 3-1 in the NAIA Flag Football Finals against TU. The Braves have defeated the Night Hawks in the last two NAIA Flag Football Finals championship games. OU defeated Thomas 24-20 on May 14, 2022 and 18-13 on May 20, 2023.
